Same Look 4 Less – Neutral Family Room Ideas

September 19, 2012 By Vidya 6 Comments

Heading right into the post…..

This week’s House Calls in Washington Post features an empty nest makeover, where a local home owner wanted to revamp her family room now that her kids are out of the house. This is what designers Jane O’Donoghue and Ann McDaniels of Urban Threads came up with.

Love the mix of contemporary and industrial styles, the warmth, and the red accents in the room but not the price tag.
Their Splurge version costs $9,464 while the Save version will set you back by $7,488!

Here is my take on the room keeping the coffee table, the main side table, and the art over the fireplace same.

All for $2,945, that is a cost saving of 61% over their Save version! Breaking it down;

Sectional

The Washington Post (Wa Po) version, shown as #1 , has the Parisian Loft sectional with chaise for$4,200 from Precedent Furniture. I’m using the Milo Fabric Sectional from Macys for $1,999. Both the couches come in red.

    You have such a beautiful space here and love the way you have transformed that living room (beautiful picks) and that too at an amazing budget. Really liked your Kerala mural painting and the stenciled throw pillow DIY projects..very creative and lovely.

      Thanks Vandana. It is so much fun to seek out all those low cost options online. I love getting a deal. So this series is really getting to be one of my favorites. Thanks again for the kind words. Glad you liked it.

      Thanks Shruthi. Wow didn’t know HG had those. Haven’t been in there in a while. Hmmm…..need to go now. 🙂 If you sign up for Kirkland coupons you usually get a $25 off for $70- $75 purchase. So even if you have to buy something for $5 (they have nice votives, frames, etc for $5) it works out well. Only catch with Kirklands coupons is that they are redeemable only in the store, which never works for me as the item that I want to get usually is available only online!

      Thank you Sue. Macys was never on my furniture store list till we bought out living room couch from them 2 yrs ago. The whole experience, customer service, everything was so fab that now I always check the Macy’s site first if I’m looking for couches.

Love this outdoor space with a beautiful red and blue outdoor decor with a flamingo pillow, metal tray side table, and loads of green plants

Finally the long overdue post, our new screened in porch reveal. This space has undoubtedly become our favorite room in the house now. To tell you the truth, I was against the idea of ripping apart our good size deck and replacing it with a screened in porch but B insisted that this was the…
