How to Add Coastal Style to Your Home

August 17, 2012 By Vidya Leave a Comment

Beach, that is what is on my mind today. The nearest beach is a good 5+ hrs drive for us. So anything beachy classifies as long distance for moi. 🙂 When you think of the beach what comes to your mind first? The sand, ocean, breeze, freshness? So why don’t we take a look at a few family rooms that feature this coastal style?

No, beach themed decor doesn’t mean you have to go overboard with nautical themes. I always associate the style with light, bright, and airy rooms. All pics courtesy Houzz. See the use of light colors,  touches of blue, and the use of natural elements like the sisal rug and the cane baskets? I know, a lot of folks are scared of white couches but using slipcovers that you can remove and wash is the best work around.

More whites and blues in this family room. Here too they’ve used natural elements, the rug and banana leaf chairs.

If you are scared to take the big white leap then you could bring in the ocean with accessories like these.

I would have never thought of using red in a room with a coastal style. But it seems to work great in this family room. My faux coral would be perfect for this space.

Here is another look that you usually do not associate with beach decor. Notice, how they have stayed away from the obvious use of blue? The sea horse pillow, the lamps that remind of buoys and the banana leaf ottoman are a subtle nod to the beach.

Love how charming this little nook looks. Again they’ve brought in the coastal style in small doses through the accessories.

That is it for today folks. Hopefully I’ll be back in full swing next week. Have a great weekend!

Love this outdoor space with a beautiful red and blue outdoor decor with a flamingo pillow, metal tray side table, and loads of green plants

Finally the long overdue post, our new screened in porch reveal. This space has undoubtedly become our favorite room in the house now. To tell you the truth, I was against the idea of ripping apart our good size deck and replacing it with a screened in porch but B insisted that this was the…
