Use What You Have Vases

June 27, 2013 By Vidya 8 Comments

You can’t always rush to the store when you want to bring some nature into your home. Just look outside and you are sure to find something in your yard, even if it is just leaves. Trust me anything from the yard will do. Don’t believe it? See for yourself.

A maple branch from the outside in our foyer niche.

Use What You Have Vases

On a side note, I’ve been drawing a blank on how to fill this place ever since we moved into the house. Any ideas?

White carpet roses from the front yard in a votive holder (a coworker’s gift from an Istanbul trip).

Use What You Have Vases

On the mantel some juniper branches in the blue thrift store bowl borrowed from the guest bedroom.

Use What You Have Vases

Inside the bowl I used the age old lattice trick to keep the Juniper branches in place. The lattice is made with duck tape on a plastic glass.

More drift roses, this time in a pinch pot that my munchkin made at school.

See what is underneath the pot? Vintage lace! I scored a bag full of vintage lace (for free!!!) the other day. Got big plans…..;)

Do you rely on greenery from your yard to dress up your home too?

You could paint the space in either a soothing color, a bright color or leave as is and place a big Indian artifact like a murti of ganpati, buddha or dress it up with one large kerala hanging lamp!

That niche is next to the wall where we have the circle mirror and Buddha (can see it better in the foyer post). The Buddha and that mirror is what you see first when you come in the door. The niche is on the side, so was thinking of something subtle that will lead the eye to the Buddha. Two fancy things/statues next to each other vying for attention might not be the best thing. That is what is bothering me. Can’t really move the Buddha anywhere else either.

Fun post! I came across this entry while looking for wedding decor ideas. I’m loving the idea of just going outside to find the greenery:)

A shabby shutter might look nice in your foyer niche. (one example: http://createinspireme.blogspot.com/2012/09/youve-got-mail.html) You could keep it simple, or use it to display the kids’ artwork, holiday cards, etc.

Thanks for dropping by Krysteena. A shutter sounds like a great idea. Will be on the look out for one.

Love this outdoor space with a beautiful red and blue outdoor decor with a flamingo pillow, metal tray side table, and loads of green plants

Finally the long overdue post, our new screened in porch reveal. This space has undoubtedly become our favorite room in the house now. To tell you the truth, I was against the idea of ripping apart our good size deck and replacing it with a screened in porch but B insisted that this was the…
